Entry Level Medical Transcriptionist Jobs With No Experience

To start a high paying career in health care information management with no prior experience, a good way is to get an entry level medical transcriptionist job with free training opportunities provided. Due to the current shortage of experienced medical transcriptionists that can provide quality service, many companies are now offering to recruit inexperienced medical transcriptionists via low cost free training programs to keep up with work demands. Interestingly, you can perform such entry level medical transcriptionist jobs at home either on a full time or part time basis.

For example, it is quite common for new medical transcriptionist graduates to start working at hospitals and health care facilities as their first job without any experience. These medical centers are more likely to employ and train new entry level medical information workers to manage the daily flow of patient records.

If you are interested in getting entry level medical transcriptionist positions with free training provided, there following are some of the ways.

Check with local healthcare groups in your area as well as your familiar physicians for any free on-the-job training programs where you can learn from a full time medical transcriptionist in exchange for working without pay. This will help tremendously when you apply for entry level medical information positions with large health care companies.

There are also many fee based medical transcription training programs available on the interest in the form of ebooks, videos and audio recording which are touted to help you develop the skills and knowledge necessary for medical information management. Strictly speaking, we do not think these are job training at all but they are necessary to get you familiar with medical terminology, dictionaries etc. However, you should be considering an accredited Associate Degree of Applied Science in Medical Transcription as a minimum to secure a high paying entry level job. Such programs are available from Kaplan University, Rasmussen College or your local community colleges.

Many medical transcriptionist degree or diploma programs include a 3 month externship in an actual physician's office to complete your education. This is essential and many employers will check that you have such externship experience before they read your resume in depth. If your home study program in medical transcription and editing does not incorporate such externships, you should still consider volunteering for apprentice medical transcriptionist opportunities even if you have to work for free for a few months.

On the other hand, big health care information management firms require candidates to have at least two years experience even for their entry level medical transcription positions which rule out many fresh graduates from school. If you do not realize this early on, many graduates waste a lot of time looking at the wrong places for their first medical transcription jobs after graduating.

Do not be too choosy when looking for internships or part time employment in medical information. I have a friend that accepted her first job as the front desk receptionist at a local clinic and gradually extended her job duties to transcribing after two weeks. Most smaller medical offices are more likely to provide you with transcriptionist training after you have shown good work ethics and not likely to disrupt their already busy work schedules.

If you have some background in transcription based jobs in the past, it will be easier to apply for entry level jobs in medical transcription now as long as you have a good grasp of common medical terminology. Look for smaller medical transcription processing companies that offer part time subcontract assignments to home based medical transcriptionists. You will be required to go through one or two weeks of in house training with a more experienced transcriptionists.

Look around your area for any free or charity sponsored clinics. These non profit clinics usually comprise of volunteers that do not expect any remuneration and they are usually short staffed. They are usually more open to bringing in new graduates from medical transcription schools without any experience to help with patient records. You will be expected to be self taught while working without any pay, but it is a good place to train yourself and get good work references for future employment.

Do not restrict yourself to just general physician offices when looking for an entry level medical transcriptionist job with no experience needed. There are also many small family dental offices that can provide free job training for new graduates. You usually have an easier time working at dental clinics because the number of patients are usually lesser and the learning curve is more gentle. Remember to refresh your memory with basic dental medication terms before going for interviews in the dental care field.
